Ark Independent Studies is a fully accredited public alternative high school; a school of choice offered through the Santa Cruz City School District. Students come to the Ark for individual meetings with their teachers once a week. During that time, students are given specific assignments, and course work is corrected and evaluated. Students are expected to spend a minimum of 20 hours each week completing their assignments at home. Assignments are tailored to fit the individual student's interests and learning style. The program is available to self-disciplined and motivated students in grades 9–12 who are working toward a high school diploma.
Ark Independent Studies is accredited by WASC — (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) Accrediting Commission for Schools.

Our Location
Ark Independent Studies is located at the corner of Branciforte and Water Streets (840 North Branciforte Avenue), on the second floor of the Branciforte Small Schools Campus (BSSC) main building, in Room 7. Ark I.S. students are welcome to come to the Ark classrooms and to the BSSC Library to work on school assignments and projects, using our modern facilities in this historic setting. Ark students can also choose to meet with their teacher at one of the three main high schools, Santa Cruz High, Harbor High, or Soquel High. Ark Independent Studies shares a campus with three other small schools.
